Remove swirls, scratches, and dullness from your paint revealing a brand new depth of shine.
What is Paint Correction?
Paint correction is the process of removing or significantly improving minor to moderate imperfections in your vehicle's paintwork. These imperfections can include swirl marks, light scratches, scuffs, oxidation, staining or etching caused by bugs, bird droppings, tree sap, hard water spots, and dull or faded finishes. By addressing these flaws, paint correction restores clarity, depth, and gloss to your car's surface, leaving it looking refreshed and polished.
Paint correction is an umbrella term that encompasses several techniques, including compounding and polishing a car. You may also hear terms like buffing, cut and buff, and jeweling, which describe specific steps used to remove scratches in car paint and refine the finish. Depending on the condition of your paint and your desired results, the process can range from a simple one-step correction to more involved multi-step procedures. In some cases, wet sanding may even be necessary to achieve optimal results.
At Firepower Detailing, the most common paint correction services we perform are one-step paint corrections, multi-step corrections, and gelcoat restoration. Each project is tailored to your vehicle's unique needs, matching it with the appropriate pads, compounds, polishes, and tools to deliver the best outcome possible. Factors such as your car’s age, paint type, color, and overall condition all influence the process we use.
While paint correction is a meticulous and labor-intensive process, we take pride in delivering safe, high-quality results. If you're looking for expert scratch removal on cars or wondering about the paint correction cost in Tyler, we’re here to help you unlock a shine that is as good as, or even better than new!
One Step Paint Correction
A 1 step paint correction means that during the process, we select one type of pad, one type of polish, and one process and complete the whole vehicle. This usually involves a medium pad and a medium polish that both have fair ability to “cut” which means to remove defects, and a fair ability to “finish” which means to brighten and deepen the paint. This balanced approach is often a good option for newer vehicles or those who just want to bring some life back into a lack-luster finish but aren’t seeking perfection. In most cases, we aim for about a 75% improvement in defects with a 1 step correction.
A 2 step paint correction means that we select 2 different processes to complete together. We start with a slightly more aggressive initial “cut” stage to remove heavier defects and a more refined secondary “finish” stage to polish the paint to a deeper and more brilliant shine. Generally the heavier defect removal leaves the surface looking a little dull and needing to be refined as a second step. This is a good option for vehicles that are a few years old or have some mileage on them, used vehicles with neglected finishes, those who want a little further refining on their finish, and is necessary for some manufacturers and colors. In most cases, we aim for about a 90% improvement in defects with a 2 step correction.
Two Step Paint Correction
Multi Step Paint Correction - As with a 2 step correction, a multi step correction further separates the steps to remove even more imperfections and refine the finish even more. This could involve a heavy, medium, and light stage for a 3 step correction. It could include wet sanding and targeted scratch removal, could involve an additional refinement step known as jeweling, and is really a case by case service. This is the type of correction that someone would want on a higher end vehicle such as a classic or a show car. The labor and time on this process goes up with each step just like the others. We aim for a 95%+ improvement in defects with a multi step correction.
Multi Step Paint Correction
Gelcoat isn’t the same as paint—it’s a durable, protective layer commonly found on RVs and boats and tends to be cast into the fiberglass during production. This gives it different characteristics and requires different products, tools, and skills to restore. Over time, gelcoat can fade, oxidize, and develop a dull, chalky appearance. Our RV detailing service is designed to tackle gelcoat oxidation head-on. We use professional techniques like compounding and wet sanding and use the right products like gelcoat polishing compound to restore gelcoat on RVs and boats to a smooth, reflective, glossy finish.
